investigation on creating the residency qualification exam questions by shiraz university of medical sciences professors, july 2014

background: sufficiency of medical residents for studying in higher level evaluated by residency qualification exams; therefore quality of these exams is effective on resident’s knowledge and learning quality. the purpose of this study is to investigate the methods of creating questions for residency qualification exams by shiraz university of medical sciences professors. methods: in this cross-sectional descriptive study, we designed questionnaires to assess the professor’s goals, purpose and interests in creating questions. results: 50% of the professors want to evaluate what residents learn when they create questions. also, 60% of them focus on residents’ dominance on what expect from them on practice. priority of 82.5% of professors is first line management of common diseases. conclusions: the study shows that there is no significance difference between question makings of professors with specific academic question making educations and those who have not specific academic education. also professors with more experience look for assessing ability of residents in solving complicated questions more than those with less experience.
